The fantasy that animals are just "instinct" has long been discredited, from both ways. It's proven that some animals have consciousness, both ways, because some say consciousness is just a meta effect of instincts working together. In any case, it's save to say that the reduction of animals as a sort of bio-machine is a form of racism called speciesism.
